About Trio

Trio was built at a kitchen table in Tampa Bay by a violin teacher and a technologist who happen to be married.

Anna has taught violin for 23 years. Her studio holds about 25 private students, ages 3 to 18, and the families who come with them. For most of those years the business side of teaching lived in her head, her phone, and a spreadsheet: who owes what, who is swapping Tuesday for Thursday, which parent never saw the practice notes, which makeup lesson expired last month. None of it was hard. All of it was constant, and every hour of it came out of teaching.

Justin has spent 25 years building secure, enterprise-class software in healthcare, where a mistake with someone's data is not an option. For a long time he watched Anna's administrative work grow and the spreadsheet become unmanageable before he did anything about it. When he finally did, the first customer was Anna's studio, and the first bug reports came from the other side of the dinner table.

We are also parents. Our three children play violin, cello, piano, and guitar, each with private teachers, so we have spent years in the parent chair as well. We know what it feels like to miss a schedule change, to wonder what to practice this week, and to receive an invoice via a text message.

That is why Trio is built for three people, not one. A lesson works when the teacher, the student, and the parent are all in it together, and studio software should treat all three as first-class. The name comes from that idea.
